U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a sweeping executive order to advance artificial intelligence education across the country. The move establishes a national initiative focused on equipping American students with the skills needed to thrive in an AI-driven economy.

The order, signed on Tuesday, forms the White House Task Force on AI Education, chaired by the Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy. Key Cabinet members from the Departments of Education, Labor, Energy, and Agriculture will also serve on the task force. David Sacks, the White House Special Advisor for AI and Cryptocurrency, is also involved.

“Early training in AI will demystify this technology and prepare America’s students to be confident participants in the AI-assisted workforce,” said the White House.

As part of the plan, a “Presidential AI Challenge” will recognize student and educator achievements, promote nationwide AI adoption, and encourage collaboration among academia, government, and industry.

The executive order also instructs the Secretary of Education to prioritize AI-focused teacher training grants and directs the National Science Foundation to channel research efforts into AI in education.

However, questions remain about how the initiative will be implemented following Trump’s recent cuts to the Department of Education’s budget in March.

While the initiative has strong ambitions, its success will largely depend on cross-agency coordination and the administration’s ability to fund and scale these educational programs effectively.
