In Brief:
Ronin has integrated Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) to enhance its cross-chain bridge security and accelerate network adoption.
The integration aims to improve user experience without requiring action from tokenholders, with a focus on securing transfers between Ethereum and Ronin.

Ronin to Secure Cross-Chain Bridge with Chainlink CCIP

Web3 gaming blockchain Ronin has announced a strategic partnership with Chainlink to enhance the security of its cross-chain bridge using Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP). This integration is aimed at reinforcing the Ronin network's security and facilitating its adoption across the blockchain ecosystem.

On October 10, Ronin revealed its decision to integrate Chainlink’s CCIP, a robust inter-chain messaging protocol that allows users to transmit messages and transactions across different blockchains. The protocol is powered by decentralized oracle networks that verify message validity on both the sending and receiving chains.

Ronin's Strategic Choice for Enhanced Security

The decision to adopt Chainlink's CCIP followed a comprehensive three-phase selection process. Ronin's integration with Chainlink is expected to enhance user experience, fortify network security, and free up resources to expedite adoption. Jeff Zirlin, co-founder and chief growth officer of Sky Mavis, praised Chainlink's track record, stating it will strengthen Ronin's infrastructure.

Johann Eid, Chainlink Labs’ chief business officer, expressed enthusiasm for Ronin's adoption of CCIP, highlighting the significant security improvements it brings to the network's official bridge.

Seamless Integration for Users

Ronin emphasized that tokenholders do not need to take any action, as the integration will occur seamlessly in the background. The existing tokens on Ronin's blockchain will not require a user-triggered migration process. The network plans to initially support transfers between Ethereum and Ronin, with the migration expected to complete in two to three months.

Increasing Security Post-Hack

The integration is part of Ronin's ongoing efforts to enhance security following the 2022 Ronin Bridge hack, one of the largest in crypto history, resulting in a loss of over $600 million. Since then, Ronin has increased its validator count and worked with regulators to recover stolen funds. The Chainlink CCIP integration is a significant step in bolstering the network's security.
