According to the Google Threat Intelligence Group (GTIG), North Korean-linked IT specialists have begun infiltrating cryptocurrency projects in the United Kingdom. This shift comes as U.S. regulatory bodies increase scrutiny of remote hiring and employment verification in the crypto industry.
The report highlights that these operatives often disguise themselves using forged identities to secure roles at blockchain startups. Their work spans both traditional web development and more specialized blockchain environments, including Solana and Anchor smart contracts.
Google’s findings suggest a global expansion of North Korea’s cyber infiltration strategy, with potential security implications for non-U.S. blockchain firms now facing similar threats previously seen in U.S.-based companies.
