In Brief:
Dfinity has signed a Letter of Intent with Cambodia to advance smart city infrastructure through research, training, and decentralized computing.
The initiative aims to integrate blockchain technology into Cambodia's national projects, positioning the country as a regional tech leader.

Dfinity and Cambodia Collaborate on Smart City Innovation

Dfinity, the Swiss foundation behind the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) blockchain, has entered into a partnership with the Cambodia Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation to advance smart city infrastructure. This collaboration, formalized through a Letter of Intent signed at Token2049, focuses on research, training, and supporting an entrepreneurial ecosystem for smart city development.

Decentralizing Computing for National Projects

Dfinity's initiative in Cambodia is part of its broader effort to share sovereign cloud technology with governments and international organizations. The Internet Computer Protocol offers decentralized serverless computing, eliminating the need for traditional cloud hosting services. This technology is expected to play a crucial role in Cambodia's digital transformation and smart city projects.

Dominic Williams, Dfinity's founder and chief scientist, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the potential impact of ICP technology on Cambodia's mission to develop secure smart cities.

Cambodia's Vision for Technological Leadership

Try Sophal, a director at Cambodia's Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation, emphasized the country's ambition to integrate blockchain technology into national infrastructure projects. This initiative aims to accelerate smart city development and strengthen Cambodia's digital economy.

Cambodia has been pursuing smart city initiatives since at least 2019, with projects like the Limestone Network in Phnom Penh. The collaboration with Dfinity marks a significant step in positioning Cambodia as a regional leader in emerging technologies.
