In Brief:
The RT-G, a spherical AI-powered robot, is designed for street crime-fighting and harsh environments.
Features include facial recognition, tear gas sprayers, a net launcher, and a sound-wave dispersal horn.

In a move reminiscent of sci-fi films, Chinese authorities have introduced the RT-G, a cutting-edge crime-fighting robot developed by Shenzhen-based Logon Technology. This amphibious, virtually indestructible, spherical robot is powered by AI and comes equipped with facial recognition software, enabling it to identify suspects and notify law enforcement.

Its arsenal includes non-lethal tools such as tear gas sprayers, a net launcher to capture suspects, and a sound-wave dispersal horn. With a battery life of 10 hours and a speed of 21 mph, the RT-G can also withstand impacts of up to four tons, making it highly durable.

Originally designed by Zhejiang University researchers for use in extreme environments like the Moon or Mars, the RT-G has now found a role in urban law enforcement. Videos on social media have shown the robot patrolling alongside SWAT teams in cities such as Wenzhou and Chengdu, garnering both awe and skepticism.

The deployment of the RT-G highlights the rapid evolution of AI and robotics in law enforcement. While it promises enhanced safety and efficiency, concerns about privacy, misuse, and the ethical implications of autonomous policing persist.
