Tornado Cash developer Alexey Pertsev has been temporarily released by a Dutch court, though he still faces a 64-month prison sentence on money laundering charges. As part of the release conditions, Pertsev will remain under house arrest with electronic monitoring until his trial date.
Following his release, Pertsev posted on X, emphasizing that his legal fight is not over and thanking supporters for donations that helped fund his defense. His case has been closely watched by the crypto and privacy communities, with many arguing that developing open-source software should not be criminalized.
This comes as legal battles around Tornado Cash continue, with co-founder Roman Storm also facing U.S. charges related to the platform’s alleged use in illicit transactions.
