Russian law enforcement has shut down an illegal cryptocurrency mining farm discovered inside a three-story orphanage in Kazachye, Irkutsk. The facility, operated by a non-profit organization, was using cheap electricity without authorization and lacked proper safety measures, including fire alarms.
Authorities have confiscated 96 mining rigs, and the court has ordered the dismantling of the equipment and termination of land use. The Irkutsk region is a hotspot for crypto mining due to its low energy costs and cold climate, but Russia has intensified its crackdown, aiming to ban mining entirely by 2031.
