According to on-chain investigator ZachXBT, the North Korean cybercrime group Lazarus executed a $3.1 million attack on the Tron network. The stolen funds were quickly swapped for ETH, fragmented into ten different addresses, and funneled through Tornado Cash, a popular crypto mixer often used to obscure transaction trails.
Lazarus Group has been linked to numerous high-profile crypto exploits, including attacks on exchanges, DeFi protocols, and bridge networks. Their use of Tornado Cash makes tracking and recovering stolen assets increasingly difficult.
With North Korean-linked hacks surging in recent years, blockchain security firms and exchanges continue to monitor and flag suspicious transactions in an effort to mitigate illicit fund flows.
